Still Time to Join the 1% Challenge!

In only 14 minutes (just 1% of your day), you can learn skills to build resilience, ease stress, and improve sleep. How? Join the 1% Challenge offered by Hoos Well partner eM Life. You can also earn $50 in awards!

  • Start the challenge by October 11.
  • You must have or create an eM Life account (it's free).
  • Practice (at least) 14 minutes in live or on-demand mindfulness sessions for at least 25 days during a 40-day period from when you start the challenge.
  • To earn $50 cash award, you must be enrolled in a UVA Health Plan.

Free Fitness Classes & Programs

Hoos Well, in partnership with UVA Rec, are currently offering free fitness classes and programs to employees and spouses. Get in shape, meet your colleagues, and have some fun!

  • Classes include Body Pump, Barre, Yoga, Aqua Jogging, Pilates, Zumba®, and Cycle, Strength & Core.
  • Programs include Tennis, Swimming, Karate, Kickboxing, Kettlebells, Pickleball, Yoga, and many more. Group programs typically last several weeks and require registration. Programs are filling fast!

UVA Rec Virtual Recreation: Range of quality programs, services, and venues that support all dimensions of wellness through sport, fitness, and recreation. (Also, in-person classes).

FEAP Virtual Resources: Collection of resources to support mental and emotional wellness.

WW (formerly Weight Watchers): Digital subscriptions and virtual workshops are available at a discounted price. You may also be eligible for 50% reimbursement.  

eM Life: Online mindfulness platform to promote health, happiness, stress management, and self-care. 

UVA Walking Paths (not virtual): Interactive walking paths throughout the university. Use the interactive map on your smartphone or print a PDF.  

An Apple a Day

Apples are in season and now is the perfect time to enjoy them in salads, breads, desserts, or all by themselves. Apples are also full of antioxidants, fiber, and water, making them a very nutritious and beneficial fruit. Studies show that eating apples can help stabilize blood sugar, lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation and blood pressure, among other health benefits - and they taste great! Start your day with some Apple-Walnut Breakfast Bread, have Kale, Apple, and Quinoa Salad for lunch or dinner, and follow that with Apple-Raspberry Crisp or Vegan Apple Pie for dessert.
