This November, UVAFinance welcomed Thomas King as a Treasury Analyst within the office of Treasury. King brings a wealth of experience to his new role, including work in the private and non-profit sectors. Throughout his time in the Peace Corps, King utilized his leadership experience and concentrated on his passion for finance.
King's career path has been impressive and diverse. After graduating from Hampden-Sydney, he was selected by the Peace Corps to serve in Mozambique, where he performed a variety of duties including, serving as the CFO of a youth development organization, establishing a rural library network, and conducting Financial Planning & Analysis as a Strategy Consultant for Peace Corps' Malaria Task Force.
“I realized I liked being behind the scenes in financial operations and making sure everything was running smoothly.”
After returning to the US, King found a position at Wells Fargo Advisors in Charlottesville, where he worked as a Financial Advisor, allowing him to remain close to his family in Richmond. There, he expanded his expertise in asset and wealth management. He further developed his financial skills at MassMutual, refining his asset management, FP&A capabilities, while also gaining valuable experience in risk management and insurance.
King says he was drawn to UVA by the opportunity to deepen his corporate finance expertise and to "create a long-lasting impact on the Charlottesville community that I call home."
As Treasury Analyst at UVAFinance, King will be involved in larger scale projects, working both inside and outside of the Treasury department. He’ll be focusing on integration projects with the Medical Center, particularly involving the new treasury banking system, while also working on debt management with others in the Treasury department.
In his free time, King is just as busy outside of work with his family. He enjoys cycling, playing board games, and reading. He and his wife are avid travelers, with recent trips to MedellĂn, Colombia and Lake Muskoka, ON.
