UVAFinance Book Club: Next book, new dates!

About 20 people participated in our first book club meetings, during which we discussed James Ryan’s book Wait, What?  (You can also check out a discussion of the book on UVAFinance's "Finance Matters" podcast.)

The next book we’ll be reading is the very short but impactful, Who Moved My Cheese? By Dr. Spencer Johnson. The subtitle of the book is “An Amazing Way to Deal With Change in Your Work and in Your Life”.

Amazon describes the book as "A timeless business classic, Who Moved My Cheese? uses a simple parable to reveal profound truths about dealing with change so that you can enjoy less stress and more success in your work and in your life."  (You can read more of their description on their website.)

Who Moved My Cheese? is an amusing and enlightening story of four characters who live in a maze and look for cheese to nourish them and make them happy. Cheese is a metaphor for what you want to have in life – whether it is a good job, a loving relationship, money or a possession, health or spiritual peace of mind. And the maze is where you look for what you want – the organization you work in, or the family or community you live in.
This book has been described as “designed to help people thrive during periods of change” (The Sunday Times) and “a motivational book to help you deal with change in your life” (The Guardian).

As we begin to think about and discuss Finance Transformation, we’ll all need to think about how we might need to anticipate change and adapt to change quickly. Read this 91-page book (it will take you less than 1 hour!) and come to the one of the book club discussions we have scheduled:

Wednesday, May 16, 12-1
Tuesday, June 19, 12-1

Both meetings are in Carr-2. Feel free to bring your lunch!

If you have a book to suggest for an upcoming book club discussion, please email finance_engagement@virginia.edu.
