DISC for Students

Patty Marbury and Angela Knobloch were invited to lead a session on DISC to a group of 36 4th year students in the Engineering school. Professor Jean Tom, who is the UVA’s Brenton Halsey Distinguished Visiting Professor of Chemical Engineering for this spring semester teaches a class in the Engineering school, called “Business and Technical Leadership in Engineering."

In the class, the students had the opportunity to complete individual DISC assessments, and then Knobloch and Marbury led them in working through scenarios to learn how understanding their own as well as others’ DISC styles helps with communication and collaboration in the workplace environment.

Following the class, Professor Tom said, “The students enjoyed the DISC workshop that Angela and Patty ran – it reinforced their understanding of not only how they communicate, but also how others perceive and receive those communications. The workshop helped set the stage for the rest of the module “Understanding Oneself and Others."
