Financial Reporting Welcomes Cintia de Souza

Cintia de Souza joined the Financial Reporting team as an accountant this February. She comes to UVAFinance from within UVA, most recently from Student Affairs.

de Souza was already a seasoned finance professional when she and her family arrived in the United States from Brazil two years ago. Precipitated by her husband’s international transfer, de Souza has seized the opportunity in a new country to not only broaden and deepen her financial expertise, but also to share her multilingual skills in pursuit of helping others. She volunteers with UVA and Piedmont Virginia Community College as a translator and with Ronald McDonald House Charities in donor communications.

As someone who enjoys interpreting, de Souza’s position in financial reporting is particularly suited to her. “I love to work with numbers, especially when I can see everything and help understand what the numbers are trying to tell us, "She says.

Although she has been in her role less than a month, she is relishing the wealth of experience and breadth of background she finds in the team. “We complement one another well,” she notes, adding that higher education, UVA in particular, is a perfect fit for her.

“We have such a dynamic environment at UVA, and I’m so proud to work here,” de Souza says. “I like the opportunities that we have because of Workday, and the fact that even though it is hard to transition to a new system, UVA is doing a really great job.”

When she isn’t working, de Souza enjoys running, riding bikes, and cooking. Always a “sporty kid,” she is currently training for a half marathon and looks to participate in a full marathon next year. As a relatively new denizen of Virginia, she also enjoys exploring the vast opportunities for adventure in the Commonwealth with her husband Leandro and their son Leonardo, 7.
