Strong roots, branching out: Mohammed Eitta joins UVAFinance

Eitta and his two youngest children

Mohammed Eitta began the new year with a new role at UVA, transitioning from the School of Medicine to the Fixed Asset Group within UVAFinance.

As the Senior Accountant-Capital Equipment, Eitta brings not only his professional expertise to bear, but also, his broad experience within UVA, including post-award accounting within the Office of Sponsored Programs and grants and contracts administration in SOM, the School of Engineering, in addition to his more recent accounting work with the SON.

“Even my work in grants administration has helped me to make connections in Fixed Assets,” he notes, adding that he is pleased to be returning to his roots, both in terms of focusing on accounting and in terms of returning to UVAFinance.

Eitta acknowledges that central finance is quite different from when he first worked here – restructuring has moved OSP out of Finance and other units in, and there are new challenges and opportunities coming as the Workday implementation draws near.

He joins the team at a crucial time, as fiscal year-end looms. Taking the challenge of switching gears during the pandemic in stride, he says he has enjoyed working with the team and is focused on absorbing and understanding.

“People are by nature adaptable creatures,” he says. “Change allows us to explore our inner strengths and adapt to new things; it is always a challenge, but with every challenge comes opportunity.”
