The Office of Export Controls also moves to the VPR
For 10 years, Kelly Hochstetler has been a frequent contact person on a variety of finance and compliance matters at UVA.
In her most recent role as the Director of Finance Outreach and Compliance, she led several functions, including training, compliance, export controls, and communications. Many in the UVA Community are accustomed to reaching out to her for help with export or sanctions compliance issues, controlled unclassified information, UVA policy, labor distribution, and a whole laundry list of other topics.
On July 6, Hochstetler formally transitioned to a new role as Director of Research Regulatory Affairs reporting to the Vice President for Research. In this position, Hochstetler will identify emerging areas of research compliance risks, determine and develop mitigation strategies, and manage, review, and assess applicable research compliance programs.
While the function of financial compliance will remain in UVAFinance, Export Controls as a department has moved with Hochstetler to the VPR’s office. (See export.virginia.edu for more on the team and its responsibilities).
A lifelong lover of research, Hochstetler, who holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, says she is excited to immerse herself once more in that world.
“I’ve loved my time as part of UVAFinance, even before it was UVAFinance, first and foremost because I got to work with a bunch of awesome people, but also because it gave me the opportunity to learn so much about financial operations and to grow as a manager and leader. While I’m not going to miss all of the finance lingo and the need to track down pennies, I am definitely going to miss the people, luckily I’ll continue to get to work with some of the UVAFinance team in my new role. Otherwise, you all know where to find me (on Zoom, Teams, or email for now or in my new office in Varsity Hall once we’re back on Grounds) so I hope you’ll stay in touch.” says Hochstetler.
UVAFinance will miss you, Kelly!
Congratulations, Kelly!
