Katie Walker to Join Indiana University as Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration

Katie Walker, our Associate Vice President and Chief Budget Officer, has accepted a new role as Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration at Indiana University Bloomington. While her leadership will certainly be missed here at UVA, we are excited to celebrate this next step in her career.

Since joining UVA in 2021 as Executive Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, Walker has made a lasting impact. She played a key role in advancing the Finance Strategic Transformation project, guiding fiscal strategy, multi-year planning, and enterprise initiatives with insight and care.

Her leadership trajectory at UVA has been marked by excellence: promoted to Assistant Vice President and then to Associate Vice President, Walker was also recognized nationally with NACUBO’s Rising Star Award. She has generously shared her expertise across the higher education community while serving as a trusted partner to the Board of Visitors, faculty, staff, and students.

Walker will continue at UVA for the next month as we finalize transition plans. We will share updates soon regarding interim leadership and any adjustments to ongoing initiatives.

Congratulations to Thomas King on His Promotion

Please join us in congratulating Thomas King on his promotion to Senior Treasury Financial Analyst. King joined UVAFinance last November as a Treasury Analyst, and in his time here, he has already made a strong impact through his expertise and dedication. We’re excited to see him continue to grow in this new role. Congratulations, Thomas!

Michael Phillips

Michael Phillips Appointed Assistant Vice President and University Controller

We’re pleased to announce that Michael Phillips, CPA, will join UVAFinance as Assistant Vice President and University Controller, effective September 22.

Phillips comes to this role from the Office of the Provost, where he has served as Associate Vice Provost for Budget & Financial Planning. In that capacity, he has guided the University’s academic budget and worked closely with our community on tuition, financial aid, and long-range planning.

He brings deep technical expertise and a strong record of partnership. Beyond his current role, Michael has chaired the Virginia Society of CPAs Accounting & Auditing Advisory Committee and, earlier in his career, served as Assistant Controller for a division of a publicly traded company in Charlottesville.
