Winfield began his academic journey at Piedmont Virginia Community College, where he studied business administration. Through conversations with professors, he developed an interest in accounting. He later transferred to James Madison University, where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Accounting.
Before coming to UVAFinance, Winfield worked at an accounting firm as a staff auditor. There, he worked with a variety of organizations, including nonprofits and colleges, which gave him insight into how universities operate before joining one from the inside.
In his current role at UVAFinance, Winfield handles account reconciliations and supports UVAHealth's transition to Workday. His day-to-day work involves checking and reconciling financial data to ensure accurate information flows between systems.
One change he has especially appreciated is the shift in work-life balance. In his previous role, busy seasons often meant long weeks and extended hours. At UVA, he enjoys a more balanced schedule while still feeling challenged by his work.
Outside the office, Winfield enjoys watching sports and is a longtime Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He has recently picked up tennis and is looking forward to spending more time on the court as the weather warms up. In his free time, he also enjoys reading science fiction for its creativity and imagination.
Looking ahead, Winfield is excited to meet new people and become more connected within the UVAFinance community.
