Tammy Kolotkin recently joined Payroll as a Senior Payroll Financial Analyst, bringing valuable experience from both the corporate world and higher education. As Senior Payroll Financial Analyst, Kolotkin will work with reconciliations, diving into the number aspects of payroll accouning.
Her path into specializing in payroll was not a linear one. Kolotkin was initially interested in accounting, particularly tax work, but she found a passion for payroll as she took on various accounting roles after her graduation from Hunter College in New York.
Kolotkin comes to UVA most recently from Florida Atlantic University, where she worked for six years. The New York native moved to Florida in order to be closer to her family. A former colleague brought the opening at UVA to Kolotkin's attention, as she believed the position would offer Kolotkin a great next step in her career.
The choice to apply turned out to be a good one, as Kolotkin says she felt fairly immediately that she and UVA's Payroll Team would be a good fit for one another.
Kolotkin was especially interested in UVA because it's a larger university compared to FAU, and with that comes more opportunities and challenges. It also helped that her experience at FAU had ingrained in her a sense of efficiency as well as giving her six years of Workday experience.

After meeting with the rest of her future team and talking over plans, Kolotkin felt especially excited about how she fit in with UVAFinance and its core values.
"It's exciting to see the vision for this team coming to life - everyone collaborates so well together," she says.

Her biggest adjustment in this new role has been to remote work more than anything. She loved meeting with everyone in person when the UVA Payroll Team converged at Carruthers Hall in September. She notes that spending in-person time with her teammates further cemented her belief that she'd made the right choice in UVA.
In her free time, Kolotkin's 10-year-old daughter Sarah keeps her on her toes with her deep involvement in singing and performing arts. Kolotkin also loves to travel. Next on her list is France, given her daughter's current obsession is the Eiffel Tower. Together, they also enjoy visiting Disney and Universal Studios. Kolotkin has a miniature poodle Cora who they adopted about a year and a half ago. Interestingly, Kolotkin is fluent in American Sign Language; it was her first language as her parents are both deaf!
