UVAFinance is pleased to welcome Skylar Stebbins to the team as an audit liasion.

Stebbins, born in Newport News, Virginia, grew up in a military family and spent most of her life in the Hampton Roads area. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University and began her career with the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts, where she has developed expertise in auditing and financial analysis over the course of four years. 

Stebbins continued her professional journey as a Sales and Use Tax Auditor. Although she did not initially anticipate a career in tax auditing, she soon discovered an appreciation for the problem-solving aspects of the field. She values the challenge of analyzing information, rapidly acquiring new concepts, and synthesizing details to develop effective solutions. 

With a specialization in data analysis and experience conducting audits for various higher education institutions, Stebbins is excited to serve as the Audit Liaison and bring her experience to UVA Finance. She looks forward to learning how the various areas of Finance collaborate to support the University and seeks to gain exposure to different functions.

As she prepares to relocate to Charlottesville, Stebbins looks forward to experiencing a new part of Virginia. Having always considered herself something of a transient adult, she is excited to live in a mountainous area for the first time and explore the opportunities the region offers.

Outside of work, Stebbins is an lifelong gamer with a particular interest in retro video games and collecting classic titles. She enjoys massively multiplayer online (MMO) such as Final Fantasy XIV Online and simulation games like Animal Crossing and City Skylines. 

Travel is another passion. Stebbins has visited Japan twice, with Miyazaki being among her preferred destinations. After studying Japanese for four years, she explored several cities throughout the country, including Tokyo, and experienced the culture directly. She has also traveled to the Bahamas and enjoys discovering new locations closer to home. A notable road trip took her from Midlothian, Virginia, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Of the destinations she visited on that trip, New Orleans is a particular favorite due to its rich history, vibrant art scene, murals, and distinctive character. She especially appreciated the city’s public transportation and observed similarities in its creative energy and culture to that of Richmond.

As she begins her journey with UVA Finance, Stebbins is eager to contribute to the team's success, support essential processes, and further expand her skill set. She looks forward to assuming new responsibilities, gaining experience in additional areas, and pursuing opportunities for professional growth and development.
